Didn’t get the job at General Pants Co.. but I got paid for the trial so that’s something.
I made some decent sales and the manager said that if I wasn’t leaving in Feb for Sydney, I’d have a job. So that goes to show where being honest got me. Apparently I was actually really good at the things that usually require training (styling, finding things in the stock room, closing sales, extracting specific info from customers) but it was approaching/initiating with customers that I ‘struggled with’.. which I can kind of understand because I wouldn’t bother customers past a “Hi, how are you today? *pause* Is there anything you were looking for in particular? *pause*” and when they’d say “No thanks, just happy browsing” I’d say “No worries! I’ll let you have a good look around, give me a shout if you need anything” and I’d always check in on customers who’d been there for a while but if someone was putting up shields, I’d leave them the fuck alone.
I helped one girl and she ended up buying about $260 worth of clothes, so that was MY sale and she thanked me when leaving and commented on how helpful I was.. Mum reckons that one or two of the girls didn’t like me and might’ve said something to the manager to deter her. One girl kept swooping in and trying to take/taking my customers which was annoying and left me with not much to do if they were the only people in the store.
Looks like its back to applying to pour beers and sass drunks at every pub, club and bar in NSW.
